Jace chats with legendary comic illustrator & instructor Bart Sears. From the early days of Brutes & Babes in Wizard magazine to Bart's most recent project on Zoop. The campaign is for a unique artbook focusing on Headshots and Bart shares his thoughts on why he likes drawing heads so much. The guys also talk about the unique challenges of drawing heads & how Bart keeps things fresh especially for characters that might not have a distinctive feature. The other aspect of the campaign that is discussed is the interactivity Bart is bringing to the project by letting he fans vote on which head shots to include and then offering those headshots as one of a kind tier rewards. There is mention of Bart's Heavy Metal strip that he works on with his wife as well. Lot of fun art talk in this one so talk a listen.

Jul 7, 2021

Jace and Jay talk about some of the books they have read already for the week of July 7, 2021. Post Americana #6 is cover to cover action and it feels like the end is near and the winner may be the last man standing! Amazing Spider-Man #70 is also very fast-paced but unfortunately it also feels a bit choppy. We can't help but wonder if the impending departure of Nick Spencer means he is having to accelerate his plans to try and finish off as many plot threads as possible and that may lead to a decline in quality. Deep Beyond is a book that continues to impress and we hope everyone is giving it a chance because it is epic Sci-Fi that keeps growing in scope & hasn't disappointed yet! Nocterra is another Image title that continually delivers. The best artwork of Tony Daniel's career along with amazing color work from Tomeu Morey brings the world Scott Snyder & Daniel have created to life in such a way that you can't help but care about these characters. Masterful job on all fronts. Children of the Atom #5 has a big reveal that really surprised us. What is not surprising is the authentic voices Vita Ayala is giving to these teenagers, fantastic and authentic, plus great art. Immortal Hulk only has 2 more issues after this week's #48 and we see some hints of where it might be headed. We just hope we get a full and satisfying conclusion rather than an ending that leaves lingering questions or doubts. The Good Asian #3 continues to be a perfect period piece with wonderful art and moody characters that inhabit a world that accurately reflects the pulp noir feel of Chinatown in the San Francisco of the 1920's. The fact that the plight of the Asian characters in the story is still relevant today is both poignant and revelatory. Clans of the Belari is a promising start for two first time comic writers from AfterShock. Set in a Sci-Fi world where clan designation and loyalty to that clan means everything, will we see the human spirit triumph? Commanders in Crisis #10 shows the heroism of the team in the face of incredible odds. They rise to the challenge just as you would expect them too. This title continues to be a love letter to comics and the giant summer events of our childhoods, so much fun! Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2 is the next chapter in the Infinite Destinies story and we get Spider-Man trying to connect with Star to stop her zany but somewhat homicidal mission to get revenge on those that mistreated her in high school. Spider-Man may be the perfect person to relate to Star, but she is probably incapable of listening. Jay's Book of the Week, Geiger #4, is as fast-paced as ever. Geoff Johns & Gary Frank seem determined to go at a breakneck pace to never let us catch our breaths as the action is coming fast & furious. Much like the character of Geiger himself, keep moving to keep the emotions at bay, but their masterful storytelling has the characterization coming through in the little moments as well as the action scenes. Jace's Book of the Week, Ordinary Gods #1, is a huge story of immortal 'gods' unknowingly trapped on earth. Kyle Higgins & artist Felipe Watanabe give us a perfect first issue here, expertly balancing the past with the present and allowing us time to connect with the protagonist while still giving plenty of historical context. Jace also gives a rundown on some other titles you may want to pick up this week.

Jul 6, 2021

Jace and rocky from Comic boom! talk about the DC books for the week of July 7, 2021 and it is a BIG week. There is a special batman Secret Files issue focusing on Duke Thomas and it has both the guys wanting to revisit some Duke stories and get a better handle on who he is as a character and see where he might be going. We get more reminders of Future State in Suicide Squad #5 as Earth 3 and the Crime Syndicate make an appearance. Batman #110 keeps the Magistrate story moving full-steam ahead, but where this issue shines is in the dynamic art and the interactions between Ghost-Maker, Harley and Batman. Swamp Thing #5 seems to take a detour from the main story that has been unfolding, but we would not be surprised to find this story connects to the main narrative more than it first appears. Also we have John McCrea art that feels so organic, great stuff. We are up to the penultimate issue of Crime Syndicate and Rocky is still loving it, while Jace still struggles to connect to the characters. More issues may have solved this, but with one issue to go we will have to wait and see. Green Lantern #4 shows John Stewarts capabilities as a fighter without his ring and we see Teen Lantern take matters into her own hands regarding the destruction of OA. This one felt a little light on plot progression, but had some gorgeous art. Batman Fortnite Zeropoint came to an end, but we didn't get everything wrapped up in a nice neat package. It is clear there is more to this story and we fully expect to hear there is a follow up series coming SOON! Justice League #64 starts a new arc as Bendis brings back Synmar Utopica from his Superman run, but it just isn't compelling and feels overwrought. It's the exact opposite in the Justice League back-up where everything seems so purposeful. The second issue of Wonder Girl was a bit of a mess, the first 3 pages felt promising and then between the strange characterization of Yara and the choppy pacing we just felt like the issue never came together. Crush and Lobo is still not rocky;s cup of tea, but Jace seems to be enjoying it. Maybe it is the fact that Jace has no previous exposure to Crush? Time will tell as next issue Crush and Lobo come face to face and that could change the whole dynamic of the series. Finally Nice House on the Lake #2 starts to build tension and drama after the bombshell events of #1. We expect this thriller to continue to ramp up the pace from this issue with really feels like the starting point of these characters and their psychological and inter-personal journey.

Jul 1, 2021

Jace chats with longtime comic writer Ron Marz about his current campaign on Zoop, Resolution. Along with fellow writer Andy Lanning with art by Rick Leonardi, Lanning & color artist Andrew Dalhouse, Ron is bringing his love of cosmic, epic storytelling to the new crowdfunding platform. The Green Lantern meets Unforgiven is the simplest way to describe the story and with the track record and experience of these creators we really expect something special. In addition to the collaboration that is bringing the story of Xaan Maddox, a legendary member of the outer-space corps of heroes known as The Resolute, to life, backers have the opportunity to get a portfolio featuring artwork from other stellar artist working in comics. From Paul Pelletier to Phil Jimenez to Liam Sharp and a whole lot more. This is a chance for this all-star lineup of creators to draw whatever comes to mind in the universe of Resolution. Be sure you go visit the campaign page to check out all the amazing artwork and rewards that are being offered and share the campaign on social media so every one who wants to join the campaign will have a chance.

Jun 30, 2021

Jace talks about a few of the books coming out the fifth Wednesday of the month June 30, 2021. black Widow #8 continues to absolutely blow us away with it's characterization of Natasha and the spectacular art which shows off the action-oriented storyline so well. Daredevil #31 still feels so much like it is marching towards something big, but the best thing about the title is that Matt seems to be finding a purpose again and we are here to see his road to redemption as he regains agency in his own title. Made in Korea starts to solidify some of the big ideas we got introduced to in the first issue. It does this in a way that grounds the ideas so we see their practical applications & how they affect people in real life. Amazing Spider Man Chameleon Conspiracy wraps up that recent storyline but in classic Nick Spencer fashion leaves some items up in the air and we wonder where if at all those questions might be answered. Undone by Blood #4 brings this story to a close, but we are very interested in more stories with this story structure. The way this one concludes has us remembering that you learn and grow so much more form failure than success. Co-Book of the Week United States of Captain America exceeded our admittedly high expectations, the creative shows a deep understanding of who Steve Rogers is and that knowledge is only surpassed by their obvious love of the character. Our other Book of the Week, Crossover #7 once again showcases the pure emotion that Chip Zdarsky can infuse into a comic story. What makes this issue even more impressive is that Chip not only infuses this issue with emotion, but manages to give huge emotional weight and context to the entire series of Crossover based and what we learn in this issue. Fantastic Stuff! Jace also gives a run down on some other titles you might want to be on the lookout for.

Jun 29, 2021

Jace and Rocky from Comic Boom! discuss the DC books for the week of June 29, 2021. It's a fifth Wednesday this month and as is often the case, DC is taking advantage of the extra Wednesday to release some Annuals. We also get a print version of the Digital First Infinite Frontier: Secret Files and we celebrate 80 years of Green Arrow. The Catwoman Annual is wonderfully written and gives us our first background on Father Valley. It turns out he has ties to Azrael and how that might play out is very intriguing. Also the art in the book is top notch. Over in the Teen Titans Academy Annual we get some of the long desired character work for some of the students of the academy but still plenty of Red X also. The Infinite Frontier Secret Files isn't mandatory reading to understand what is going on in the Infinite Frontier mini-series, but it certainly does give more context and we do recommend picking it up. Finally the Green Arrow 80th Anniversary special does an incredible job of encapsulating so many of the most iconic eras of the Emerald Archer. Both with the narratives and the art, we find ourselves at times transported back to certain periods of the Green Arrow comics and we love that so many of the creators from those books join us here. Plus there is an incredible tribute to Denny O'Neil who certainly was a very important creator when it comes to defining Oliver Queen.

Jun 26, 2021

Jace catches up with the creative team for Slow City Blues, Samuel Haine, Shawn Moll & John Livesay. With only about 10 days left before the end of the campaign on July 6, the guys chat about the success of the crowdfunding so far. There is also a bunch of conversation about Shawn Moll joining the project and how the process of collaboration has been between all the creators. The guys also discuss main character, John Loris's hair ... in detail.

Jun 24, 2021

Jace chats with writer Patric Lewandoski about his all ages graphic novel Future Girl. A simple time travel premises with two young protagonists, this is the perfect gift for young readers. There are some really great ideas and concepts in the story that can engage older readers as well. Plus if you really want to look at deeper meanings of our desire for continued existence and the consequences of our actions, there is plenty of that to. All this narrative is presented with a clean and simple art style that is pleasing to look at as well as proving the right tone and pace for the story.

Jun 24, 2021

Jace chats with writer Kyle Higgins about his upcoming series Ordinary Gods. Releasing from Image Comics on July 7th, Kyle describes it as The highlander meets the Matrix, but it is really so much more than that. A 40 pg first issue for the regular cover price gives us a big chunk of story in the debut issue to start building out the world and story of the immortal beings who form the backbone of the narrative. That is only the start though as we learn there is a civil war between these 'gods' and some have been imprisoned on earth where they have been re-incarnating over thousands of years again and again. With incredible artwork from Filipe Watanabe, this series has the potential to explore so many times in human history while at the same time telling a fantasy influenced tale about the world these beings come from. Kyle also mentions feeling obligated to take "big swings" with his current creator owned projects and how much fun he is having subverting expectations for readers. It is a fun chat so join us and be sure to let your retailer know that you want a copy of issue #1 of Ordinary Gods.

Jun 24, 2021

Jace takes a spoiler-free look at some of the titles hitting comic shops the week of June 23, 2021. Spawn's Universe from Todd McFarlane and company is the start of something incredibly big. Better grab a copy because this is a book that people may look back on in 20 years and say it all started here! Stray Dogs comes to an end with #5 and it is just as poignant, emotional and impactful as each and every issue of the series has been. Amazing Spider-Man #69 brings on Ed Brisson as co-writer and we wonder how long he will be around because this issue is really solid. Action from cover to cover and so many storylines! Fantastic Four Life Story works very well if you look at it as a What If story because so much of this version of the FF's history is completely different from the team and family we know, but that's ok because it is very compelling. Captain Marvel #29 is a wonderful character issue for Carol where she shows so much self-awareness. Perfect example of how much Kelly Thompson understands who Carol is. Plus we get incredible line work and a gorgeous cover. Gamma Flight #1 ties into the Immortal Hulk storyline and we are glad because the story of these characters may not fit into the pages of the Immortal Hulk book, but it is a story worth reading. Lan Medina handles the art and it looks great. Heroes Return finishes up the Heroes reborn event, but we are left feeling a bit like this one may be forgotten quickly. It was all a bit predictable and while at times it was fun, it's impact is questionable. Nuclear Family #5 finishes this series up in a way that fits the feel of the series overall. All your questions may not be answered and you are left to ponder the implications. Just like some of the best episodes of the Twilight Zone not everything is wrapped up in a nice, neat package. Way of X #3 has Nightcrawler more confused than ever when it comes to the answers he seeks about finding a way to stem the spiritual malaise he feels is spreading on the island of Krakoa. Kurt has always been a character whose faith has been strong, but what may matter most here is that Kurt believe in himself. We have not one but two Books of the Week this time out, both have surprising twists in the narrative that we were not expecting based on the previous issues. Shadecraft #4 show us we may not be getting the family drama we expected, but may be getting a much more action-packed one. Lee Garbett & Antonio Fabela are at the height of their artistic powers as well. In Blue Flame #2 a huge event happens within the first two pages that will have a huge impact on the dual narrative going forward and we wonder how Sam may view it. Will he begin to believe that perhaps humanity is not worth saving? All this, plus Jace gives a rundown on some other titles you may want to be on the lookout for.

Jun 22, 2021

Jace and Rocky from Comic Boom! chat about the DC books for the week of June 22, 2021. In the pages of Justice League #63 Naomi officially joins the the league while in the back up Justice League Dark story, we meet a new potential female member of that team. Detective Comics #1038 has a big brawl between Batman & Roland Worth with what we expect is the Magistrate pulling the strings, while the back-up shows that the Penguin may want to return to some former glory. Checkmate #1 brings back all the familiar players from the previous Leviathan events, but can Mark Shaw truly maintain control of all the intelligence assets of the DC Universe? Wonder Woman Black & Gold #1 has some truly astounding art with some great stories that provide wonderful insight into who Diana is. We get more Wonder Woman in #774 as Diana finds the gods of Olympus have been killed, but she is not about to let them remain in the Graveyard of the Gods without trying to rescue them. Harley Quinn #4 shows Harley bouncing back from the events of #3 and choosing to bring the fight to Hugo Strange and rescue her new sidekick Kevin. Mister Miracle #2 continues this excellent series as Shilo Norman's identity may be compromised and the fallout from that may be tremendous. How will he deal with this possible disaster while being attacked by N'ver Free, who claims to be the true child of Scott & Barda? Teen Titans Academy #4 is a Bat Pack investigation into the identity of Red X, but are the kids on the right track? Superman #32 finishes up the series as Superman and Jon are able to rescue the Thakkramites from the Shadowbreed. On the heels of that rescue it's clear the Kal-El is very proud of his son. Robin #3 shows us the first interaction between Damian and Connor Hawke, but it is the surprise guest appearance at the end of the issue that may be even more important. Action Comics #1032 reveals that the suspected Kryptonians imprisoned on War World may be a group that fled Krypton thousands of years before the planet exploded. One thing is for sure, whether these prisoners are Kryptonian or not, Superman will not let them remain enslaved. Batman Superman #19 gives us some really fun version of Superman Batman and Robin in different time periods. Each of the era's is illustrated by a different artist and it really helps to bring the comic to life. This comic is so much fun, we hate that it is ended with #22. Batman Reptilian has amazing art that brings to life this great version of Batman who has a little more of an edge than readers of the conventional version of the Caped Crusader may be used to.  Infinite Frontier #1 has some interesting threads but it isn't 100% clear yet how things may all fit together, but the Psycho Pirate and last page reveal were favorite moments for the guys.

Jun 20, 2021

For the first time Joshua Dysart is discussing Odinn's Eye. Jace chats with writer Joshua Dysart about this upcoming project for Bad Idea. Set far back in a time even before most recorded history, Odinn's Eye tells the tale of a young girl who is beset by visions. Visions she believe are a message from Odinn himself that send her and her compatriots on an epic quest. Josh has been inspired by everything from classic fantasy to Sergio Leone westerns in crafting this story. He also mentions his desire to create a large story that feels grand in scope while exploring themes of belief and faith and how those beliefs can impact the real world. Incredible artwork from Tomas Giorello brings it to life, be sure you have pre-ordered so you don't miss it.

Jun 16, 2021

Jace and Jay chat spoiler-free about some of the comics hitting shops the week of June 16, 2021. Heroes Reborn reaches the last issue, but it isn't' the end of the story and if the last page is any indication, we have a massive battle coming in Heroes Return #1. Much like a lot of the other Heroes Reborn Tie-Ins Weapon X & Final Flight #1 really adds to the tapestry of the Heroes Reborn universe, this time in a very heartbreaking way. Home #3 really flips the series on its head, previous issues had a lot of relationship dynamics with a little action, here we get the action dialed up to ten! Seven Swords #1 from AfterShock seems like another big hit from the publisher, whether you are a huge fan of the Three Musketeers or only know them in passing this period tale expanding on their mythos is a must-read with incredible art. Alien #4 once again is cover to cover action, we are really impressed how the creative team manages to pack such a fast-paced, action-packed story into a single issue and make it feel like such a big chunk of story. X-Corp #2 is a technically wonderful comic, but we still aren't sure how it's tone fits in with the rest of the X-Universe. Fantastic Four #33 lives up to the classic wedding issue of Fantastic Four issues of the past. An FF wedding issue is always going to be over the top and this one is no exception and leaves us with an awesome cliffhanger. Time Before Time #2 gives us a very interesting and fresh take on a time travel story and it's one that may have it's roots in crime noir. I guess we will have to keep reading to find out. Radiant Black #5 picks right up where #4 left off, but once again, just when you think you know where the story is going, the creative team subverts our expectations once again. This is a very impressive book. Silver Coin #3 is brutal and horrifying just as the entire series has been so far and we can't wait to see if this seemingly disparate tales are going to all tie together at some point. Captain America Annual #1 continues the Infinite Destinies storyline that runs through all the Marvel Annuals this summer. We get the return of Overtime, who we last saw in the pages of Wolverine and the Infinity Watch, but will his plans for redemption lead to even worse consequences? The Clone Sage of Miles Morales continues and the stakes have never been higher for out hero. We can't help but wonder when tragedy may strike Miles and if he may then carry around the guilt of that much like Peter Parker does. Planet-Sized X-Men #1 lives up to the name with the mutants undertaking an incredible misson. Will they succeed and if so what might the fall out be, not only for the X-Men corner of the Marvel Universe, but for the whole of that universe. Stillwater #8 gives us the origin of the sheriff and pull us deeper into her motivations and loyalties towards the town. Finally Silver City #2 starts to build up both action and mystery as we settle into the the cynical afterlife that is Silver City. After a pitch perfect introduction to this world and characters, the creative team wastes no time in ramping up the narrative. Plus Jace gives a rundown on some other books you might want to be on the lookout for when you hit your comic shop this week.

Jun 15, 2021

Jace and Rocky from Comic Boom! take a look at the DC Pride Special from DC Comics this month. This issue celebrates the many characters & creators of DC Comics who are proud members of the LGBTQ+ community. DC has had a long history of inclusivenes in their stories and this anthology is a perfect example. While the guys may have not liked every story, what cannot be denied is the postive tone and spirit of the issue. Plus there are a ton of great characters featured in this issue with spectacular art. Both Jace and Rocky look forward to learning more about these characters that we hope to see much more of in the future.

Jun 15, 2021

Jace and Rock from Comic Boom break down the DC Comics issue for the week of June 15, 2021. Jace gives his nod for best of the week to Catwoman #32 as we see several characters try to answer the question of who Selina Kyle is. Rocky's favorite is Nightwing #81 as we get a huge bombshell about the Grayson family. The question is, can we believe it to actually be true? Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow #1 is simple in it's concept but nuanced in the way it will explore who Kara is and test her heroism in ways she may not be ready for. Static: Season One #1 goes over much of the same ground from the original Static series nearly 30 years ago, which shows just how groundbreaking that series was as much of it's concepts translate to today. The creative team this time around give the book a very modern feel both in scripting and art which makes for an excellent read. Batman Fortnite Zeropoint feels like it may be lasting just a bit too long, but the final issue coming next week will be the decider on that. Flash #773 teases possible redemption for Wally, but we haven't gotten there yet and is it even necessary? Finally Superman Red& Blue offers a few good stories but ends up inconsistent overall.

Jun 14, 2021

Jace chats with comic creator Tim Seeley about his AfterShock title Dark Red. Hugely inspired from classic 1980's horror, this title tells the story of a vampire but in much different context that you may have seen before. Looking at Vampires as an analogue for the have and have nots, this is an incredible relevant story with tons of action and humor. Plus Tim even got to draw on some inspiration from the stories his grandfather used to tell him about his World War experiences.  Join in as the guys breakdown this incredible series.

Jun 9, 2021

Jace chats with Jonathan Thompson about his current Kickstarter campaign for his project A Game of Doubles. The story of twin brothers who have led very different lives and how the grass always seems greener. Jonathan and artist Ryan Tavarez have not only concocted an interesting story, they have two different endings for the project. You can choose to buy one book and get one of the endings or grab the flip book version to have both. There is also a director's cut with both versions as well as tons of process notes and back matter to get a closer look at how these creators put the project together. A project like this with a story that works on multiple levels is very much worth exploring, so go check out the campaign and join in to help bring this project to life.

Jun 9, 2021

Jace and Jay give a rundown on some of the books they have read for the week of June 9, 2021 spoiler-free. Maniac of New York concludes, but it is only the end of the first story arc. There is more Harry coming! Bunny Mask is an incredibly engaging and intriguing story that will pull you right in. Geiger fills on more of the the backstory of our main character, plus it shows us that Geiger may be one of those people who need to bed needed. Babyteeth continues to be fantastic in its return. The story has always balanced he action with incredible relationship drama and that hasn't changed. Ant may not have been worth the wait, we will let you decide, but knowing Erik Larson is brining her back is welcome news. The Good Asian is a good read! Perfectly period noir with accurately depicted racial strife that is all too relatable, great book! Finally Jace also lets you know what other books are out this week you may want to be on the lookout for.

Jun 8, 2021

Jace chats with Jordan Plosky, CEO of Zoop, a new crowd -funding platform for comics. Zoop handles all the logistical challenges of marketing, fulfilling and running the campaign. This frees up the creators to just create. Plus Zoop only gets paid if the campaign is successful so they have a very vested interest in getting projects over the line. The platform essentially performs like other crowd-funding sites, but brings in so much more simplicity and each campaign is custom tailored to best suit the needs of that creator or creative team. Currently the platform is live with it's first project, Slow City Blues, with many more projects to come in the new future. Even some creators who have been regulars on other crowd-funding platforms are making the switch to Zoop. Listen in for all the details.

Jun 8, 2021

Jace and Rocky from the Comic Boom! YouTube channel talk about the latest DC books. There are so many great titles this week starting with Batman Urban Legends #4, the Red Hood and Grifter stories continue to be absolutely amazing. We get a fun look at Luke Fox back in the Batwing costume and the first of a three part Tim Drake Robin story. Meanwhile the emotionality and action of the Justice League's last adventure continues in Justice League Last Ride #2 and the art is spectacular. Rorschach #9 doesn't move the narrative forward in a big way, but the visual storytelling is superb and it feels like the clues are starting to line up. Batman The Detective #3 gives a welcome look at a young Bruce Wayne traveling the world and learning some manhunting skills, the guys both would love a series focused solely on this period of Batman's training. Over in Detective Comics #1037, Bruce Wayne has actually been accused of murder and arrested. Doesn't the GCPD now better by now? One of the back-ups starts a big debate about Lucius Fox and had Jace all fired up! Wonder Woman #773 might not resolve the Norse storyline in the most mythic & impactful of ways, but the story is wildly entertaining and feels authentic. Also the last page view of Themyscira is a great cliffhanger. Joker #4 has more of the actual Joker in it than any of the previous issues and the guys are divided on whether that's a good thing or not. Future State Gotham #2 teases a chance at redemption for Jason Todd, but is it too little, too late?

Jun 7, 2021

Jace chats with the creative team for a new crowd-funded project, Slow City Blues. The story follows a detective who is trapped in his own imagination after some tragic events in the real world. A story that explores loss, grief and self-acceptance set in a fantasy world with incredible artwork. Not only is this a new project, it is the debut project for a new crowdfunding platform called Zoop. This new company will handle all the logistical parts of crowd-funding campaigns and leave the creators free to create. Be sure to go and check out the project on Zoop!

Jun 5, 2021

Jace chats with Mitch Hallock, creator of Terrificon a true COMIC-con returning at the end of July. They guys chat about the challenges of bringing back a convention post-Covid. Also the comic-centric nature of Terrificon and how that informs what guests are invited and the panels and programming offered at the show. There are tons of great guests coming to the show for 2021 and lots of vendors with some amazing comics, collectibles and more. Give this one a listen and make some plans to attend Terrificon if you can!

Jun 4, 2021

Jace is joined by veteran comic book creator John Livesay to chat about all sort so things. John gives a brief history of his childhood love of comics and how he acquired so many of the great books he is constantly sharing on Twitter. We also hear how he went from writer to penciller to inker. There's talk about the current state of inking and how it has changed over the years. Plus John teases his upcoming creator owned comic Slow City Blues.

Jun 2, 2021

Jace welcomes comic creator Erica Schultz to the show to discuss her current Kickstarter campaign for The Deadliest Bouquet. When the mother of three women dies under mysterious circumstances the sisters must reunite to solve her murder all the while dealing with the consequence of their upbringing that including being trained to hunt Nazis. Skills passed down from one generation to the next, including grueling physical training makes for a very unorthodox childhood & leaves the sisters with complicated emotions for their mother, especially now that she is gone. In a word, despite the action and mystery contained in this original graphic novel, this story is about relationships. We all deal with loss in our own ways and we all certainly have relationships in our lives. From these touch points, this creative team hopes to bring this entertaining narrative to life. From the gorgeous 90's inspired cover by Kevin Wada to the beautiful interior and covers, you should definitely check this project out!

Jun 2, 2021

Jace and Jay talk about some of the titles that are hitting comic shops the week of June 2, 2021. Amazing Spider-Man #67 has a very classic Spider-Man, but Jace is hoping we get to the end of some of the many plot threads that are playing out in the title currently. Nocterra spends some time on quiet moments and has some great characterization, but this month's issue also really brings some hardcore action! Can't wait to see what happens next. Dep Beyond #5 gives us a look at what is on the other side of the portal and really shows how far the series has come in only a few issues. Out of Body #1 from AfterShock is surprisingly grounded for a book that deals with the supernatural. It has both an ethereal and procedural feel, fantastic work by the creative team. Inkblot is just a while lot of fun, exactly the book you would expect starring a fantastical and possible mythical cat. Speaking of cats, Black Cat #7 shows the heart of Felicia Hardy with gorgeous artwork. This character has come so far from her Spider-Man sidekick days. Iron Man Annual #1 does such an incredible job of establishing a start to the Infinite Destinies narrative it has convinced Jace to go all in. Also the art is SPECTACULAR! Heroes Reborn #5 is ok, but Jace worries about the inconsistency in art and story for the event overall. Crush and Lobo gets Jay's stamp of approval, he also feels like the characterization of Crush is authentic. Immortal Hulk #47 has us very close to the end of this series and it feels like its time to take the Hulk in a different direction, but we can't wait to see how this one ends first! Jay's Book of the Week is Star Wars War of the bounty Hunters #1, based on the strength of this issue, Jay is going all in on this event. We love how much it enriches the character & story points we know from the films and even adds to the Star Wars film canon. Also we are reminded in this issue what a bad ass Boba Fett is! All this, plus Jace runs down some other titles you may want to pick up this week.
